Tinctures are taken in small amounts (typically 20-60 drops) diluted in water or juice. They’re valued in herbalism
for their convenience, potency, and preservation of both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble plant compounds.

Basic Tincture-Making Process

  • • Fill jar halfway with dried herb (or 3/4 full with fresh herb)
  • • Pour 80-100 proof alcohol over herbs until completely covered
  • • Seal jar and shake daily for 4-6 weeks
  • • Strain through cheesecloth, squeezing out all liquid
  • • Bottle in amber glass dropper bottles, label with herb name and date
